My interest in the auto industry began in the 1950’s. Since I really enjoyed building go-karts and mini-bikes, I thought it would be fun to work bigger and faster vehicles. One day, I rode my bicycle down to the local gas station and asked the mechanic if he’d teach me how to work on cars.
For the first seven years as a technical editor at ALLDATA, I managed the Toyota, Lexus, Scion and Mazda databases. When an opportunity to join the ALLDATA Automotive Diagnostic Team arose, I jumped at the chance.
Hello all. My automotive career began in 1990, working for a rental car company, where I got hooked on fixing cars. In a short time, I began working as a used-car technician at an import car dealership. Eager to take my skills to the next level, I soon landed a job at a Ford dealership in the San Francisco Bay Area.
I’ve always been fascinated with the mechanical aspect of cars and pushing the limits of vehicle performance. Some of my fondest memories as a young man are wrenching on cars with friends, hanging out in my neighbor’s garages and of course, drag racing at the local raceway.
Like many technicians, I found out early that I liked taking things apart to see how they worked. This usually got me in a tad bit of trouble sometimes, but most often, I got rewarded for fixing whatever it was.

Greetings and salutations. I’ve had a love for all things mechanical since I can remember: bicycles, trains, cars, planes and any toy that moved on its own. I just had to dismantle them then attempt reassembly.
My passion for diagnostics began at a young age, figuring out puzzles and taking various toys apart and putting them back together. I grew up in the age where computers were new and cars were just starting to use them.
Growing up I always had a fascination with cars. I would spend a lot of my free time at the shop of my best friend’s father. He would always let me see what he was working on and explained everything to me.
I’ve been around cars my entire life. You could say that working on cars is in my blood. My father is a 40-plus year veteran of the automotive Industry and my brother has worked as a technician for years. So, it’s only natural that I followed suit.
I had the good fortune to grow up around drag racers. My Dad raced Chrysler Hemis in Akron, Ohio in the ‘60’s and rubbed elbows with notable racers like Art Arfons. Two of my uncles raced bracket cars – a Chevy Nova and a Chevy Camaro. A neighbor of ours raced a 400 Chevy-powered slingshot dragster, for which my friends and I were the pit crew. Needless to say, cars were a hobby long before they were a career.
