Looking up the System Type (32-bit or 64-bit)

Follow the instructions for the version of Windows that you are using.

Windows XP

  1. Click Start >> Right-click My Computer.

  2. Click Properties.

  3. In the System Properties box, on the General tab under System:

    • If it is a 32-bit system, nothing specific will be listed about the system type.  This is the most common system type for Windows XP users.

    • If it is a 64-bit system, it will state so here. This type is very uncommon for Windows XP users.

 

Windows Vista

  1. Click Start (the Windows "flag") >> Click Computer.

  2. Click System properties.

  3. Under System >> System Type, the system type will be listed - either 32-bit or 64-bit.

Windows 7

  1. Click Start (the Windows "flag") >> Right-click Computer.

  2. Click Properties.

  3. Under System >> System Type, the system type will be listed - either 32-bit or 64-bit.
