I had the good fortune to grow up around drag racers. My Dad raced Chrysler Hemis in Akron, Ohio in the ‘60’s and rubbed elbows with notable racers like Art Arfons. Two of my uncles raced bracket cars – a Chevy Nova and a Chevy Camaro. A neighbor of ours raced a 400 Chevy-powered slingshot dragster, for which my friends and I were the pit crew. Needless to say, cars were a hobby long before they were a career.
In 1985, while working my way through college to become an electronics technician, I took a job at a Lincoln-Mercury dealer in Kent, Ohio as a lot attendant. I soon worked my way up to a line technician. It wasn’t long before I was a certified Ford Master Technician. My knowledge of electronics became invaluable for repairing the increasingly complex electronic systems in what was then, modern cars.
I left the dealer environment in 1999 to work for an independent shop in Las Vegas. There, I specialized in emissions failures and vehicle electronics. In 2005 I purchased J2534 pass-through equipment and began re-flashing vehicle modules.
I love the challenge of a difficult diagnosis. As a diagnostic consultant for ALLDATA I get a chance every day to help technicians get through challenging diagnostics and repairs – a very rewarding experience..
At home I have my lovely wife, Evy, who has put up with me for 16 years. I usually have an old Ford in the process of restoration or customization in the garage. I still love getting my hands dirty.
