From an early age my penchant for mechanical gadgets was evident. Most presents I received were quickly dismantled to their smallest piece; much to the horror of my relatives.
Then, like a mad scientist, I’d quickly reassemble them. “See”, my mom would say, smiling proudly. “I told you he could put it back together.”
After four years in the United States Air Force as a crew chief on a KC-135 in-flight refueling aircraft, I attended a two-year college and earned an Associate of Arts degree in Automotive Technology and minored in journalism. I’d like to give a big thanks to my instructors at Sierra College who were pivotal in launching my rewarding career!
Fresh out of school in 1977, I began working at a local Datsun dealer and quickly advanced to a senior technician. When the call came for volunteers to go to Nissan fuel-injection school, I was first in line. During the following 16 years, Datsun became Nissan and I became a Nissan Master and ASE Master Automobile Technician, primarily focusing on electrical and drivability diagnostics.
In the years to follow, I opened a bike shop full-time, became service manager of Biker’s Dream in Sacramento, and in 1996, went to work for ALLDATA. My career now had taken a new direction. While at ALLDATA, I got the chance to combine my automotive knowledge with journalism and become a senior automotive writer, a marketing writer, PR manager, and product manager.
In 2009, I had the opportunity to teach advanced automotive diagnostics and emissions at Universal Technical Institute. During the next four years, I had the pleasure of teaching students the skills they needed to be successful diagnostic technicians.
In 2013, I came back to ALLDATA to apply my expertise to a fantastic product — ALLDATA Tech-Assist. As the Tech-Assist team supervisor, I’m excited to lead a team that provides world-class diagnostic solutions that help technicians effectively fix difficult problems.
