California Certified Smog Inspection and Repair Technician
Nissan Master Technician Certified
AA Degree in Occupational Studies (Automotive and Diesel Focused)
My automotive career began at a time when gas was $0.77 per gallon and was being rationed on even and odd days. I liked hanging out at a local Shell station while they serviced my parents’ car.
I was captivated by the hydraulic lifts, the tools and everything the mechanics were doing. By the time I was in the 8th grade, that fascination turned into a part-time job there — pumping gas, cleaning tools and doing anything I could to help out.
My first car was a basket-case English Ford that I bought for $50. My parents never imagined that I would get it running so soon – but not without a few expensive mistakes – including a broken camshaft. Not to be denied my four-wheeled freedom, I bought my first service manual to learn how to correctly replace and time the camshaft. Even before I started high school, I had that old Ford sliding around on the dirt roads at the local gravel quarry. I was hooked!
My high school auto shop project, a 1968 CJ5 V6, was another basket case that I built from the frame up. I still own that old Jeep today. Throughout high school, I spent summers at various independent shops, including an independent BMW garage.
I attended Denver Automotive and Diesel College, which brought my mechanical expertise to a professional level. With my Associates Degree, a California Smog Test and Repair license and an ASE Master Automobile certificate in hand, I spent the next 25 years at two Nissan dealerships, achieving a Nissan Master Technician certification along the way.
In my spare time I have a lot of different interests ranging from riding dirt bikes to wakeboarding and visiting beautiful destinations with the family in my diesel-powered motorhome. We all enjoy taking the toys to our favorite lakes and mountains – and one of the best sand-riding places on earth – Pismo Beach!
Keeping up with my three boys and all of our toys took a toll on this old body so I began teaching Engine Management Systems at Wyotech. After a few years of teaching, I joined the Tech-Assist team here at ALLDATA. I enjoy researching, creating and sharing repair strategies with other technicians and I really look forward to assisting you.
