California Smog Check Inspection and Repair Technician
California Bureau Certified Smog Instructor
As the son of an electrical engineer turned automotive service station owner, I grew up around cars and electronics.
I moved from bathroom and soda machine tech to floor sweep and car wash tech to doing simple service operations such as oil changes, brake jobs, spark plug replacement, and sometimes, setting the dwell on points and installing condensers (ask someone over 55 what points are). In dad’s shop, we worked on everything from small cars to dump trucks and construction equipment. It was there that I replaced my first fuel pump (on a Datsun 510) and replaced brakes on an early 1960’s Cadillac Sedan DeVille; both jobs were before my 16th birthday.
After a detour to college, flight training, and working as a pilot / flight instructor, I worked for 21 years as a journeyman Honda dealership technician. My next stop was 12 years in automotive education at the high school and post-secondary level including teaching California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) approved emissions diagnosis and testing classes to college students and seasoned technicians.
In February 2016 I opened a new chapter by joining the Tech-Assist diagnostic team. ALLDATA® has amazing products that are serving our customers by providing information that is used to repair millions of cars. All this is built on a foundation of a team that has hundreds of years of experience in serving the automotive repair community. I look forward to many years of partnering with the amazing brain-trust that exists within my coworkers.
When not assisting with the diagnosis of automotive conundrums, I enjoy hiking and traveling with my wife, riding motorcycles with my adult sons, chatting with the granddaughter, coaching cross-country running, flying sailplanes and powered airplanes, and photography.
