Clearing Browser Cache
Note: It is a good practice to periodically delete your browser’s cache (Temporary Internet files and cookies).
Turning on Password Saving

Translating Websites to Other Languages
Change the language settings in Google Chrome so that every website appears in the language of your choice.

What is an Internet Browser?
The short answer is that it’s the program that you use to access the Internet.
The browsers most commonly used by ALLDATA customers are:
Internet Explorer

Checking and Installing Windows Updates
Windows XP
Install Updates Manually
Open Internet Explorer.

Select Tools >> (Microsoft) Windows Update.
If Windows Update has not been run previously, a pop-up will open asking to install the Windows Update software >> click Install.
Creating Shortcuts, Favorites and Bookmarks
Easily come back to any website page by adding it to your Shortcuts, Favorites or Bookmarks.
Choose one or both:
Create a shortcut on your computer desktop
Move your cursor to any blank space on your desktop. Right-click on the blank space >> Click New >> Shortcut.

Downloading Files from the Internet
Click the name of your default Internet browser to learn how to download a file from the Internet.

Restricting Internet Access to Only Approved Sites
Use Internet security software to limit the websites that can be accessed from your shop.

Restarting Your Computer
“Restarting” your computer does not mean just pushing the “off” button (which does not shut down your computer safely).
On your keyboard, press the key with the Windows “flag” logo and the M key AT THE SAME TIME to minimize all programs that are open.
Press the Alt and F4 keys on your keyboard AT THE SAME TIME to open the Shut Down screen.
Looking up the Version of Windows
Right-click on the My Computer or Computer icon on your computer desktop.

If you do NOT have a desktop icon, click HERE
Click Start (or the circle with the Windows “flag” logo), then right-click My Computer or Computer.
Looking up the CPU (Processing Speed) and RAM (Memory)
Right-click on the My Computer or Computer icon on your computer desktop.

Looking up the Free Space on the Hard Drive
To look up the amount of available space left on your computer’s hard drive:
Click Start >> Computer or My Computer.
Under Hard Disk Drives, right-click on Local Disk (C:).
Note: If you have customized your computer’s drives, it may be a different drive letter.
Click Properties.
Looking up the Computer’s IP Address
Press the Windows “flag” key and the R key on the keyboard at the same time.
Looking up the System Type (32-bit or 64-bit)
Follow the instructions for the version of Windows that you are using.

Click Start >> Right-click My Computer.
Turning Off IE7 Compatibility View for ALLDATA Websites
Some Internet Explorer 8 or 9 users have set up their browser to be compatible with sites that only work (or work better) using Internet Explorer 7.
As technology moves forward, fewer and fewer websites are compatible with IE7.
Those with Compatibility View turned on will increasingly need to turn it off in order to view ALLDATA websites without any issues.

Updating the Time, Date and Time Zone
